LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu — Fulfilling his campaign promise and in line with his vision to transform this highly urbanized city into a “Little Hongkong”, Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan has signed a Memorandum of Agreeement (MOA) with representatives of a developer signalling the construction of a four-storey socialized housing in Barangay Canjulao which, he claimed, is affordable to minimum wage earners.

The energetic mayor noted the importance of having a safe and durable dwelling as he cited the recent experience with typhoon Vicky when 90 houses made of light materials along the coastal area of Sitio Apro in Barangay Ibo, Lapu-Lapu City were washed away by big waves caused by tropical depression Vicky at around midnight of December 19 last year.

Little HongKong’ (This program is part of our vision to free every Opon resident from difficulties. This is not the last socialized housing project that we will embark on because we are eyeing a lot in a larger barangay. Those who are not included in this first project need not worry because we will still have another site. This will pave the way for our city’s transformation into a Little Hongkong),” Chan said.

Opon is the old name of Lapu-Lapu City.

He added that with the socialized housing, the poor families will be given a fair chance to have their own house which they can really call a home.

Chan thanked Lawyer John Paul Claudio, Francis Chua, and Charlie Gonzales who also signed the MOA on behalf of the developer of the mayor’s socialized housing project. (AI/MTVN)
