Borongan City residents undergo random Covid-19 rapid test

TACLOBAN CITY – Borongan City, the capital of Eastern Samar, has started its random rapid antigen testing to residents for early management and proper monitoring of suspected coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) carriers.

The city health office (CHO) on Thursday conducted the first random testing in Taboc village, where three out of 91 participants yielded positive results.

Mayor Jose Ivan Dayan Agda said they were immediately isolated, including their identified close contacts, and will undergo confirmatory testing.

“Through this, we will no longer be on a guessing game. Our response will be guided by science and we can immediately contain the spread of the virus, thus increasing the chances of our fellow Boronganons to live because adequate medical intervention can be undertaken immediately by our CHO,” he said in a statement on Friday.

He added that more communities in the city center will be subjected to random testing in the next few days to contain the ongoing community transmission of coronavirus.

The city information office said so far, the communities of Balud, Campesao, Zone H, and Songco, have already finalized their target schedule for the activity.

As of Wednesday, the city has recorded a total of 110 Covid-19 cases, based on the monitoring report of the Eastern Samar provincial health office.

This includes 76 recoveries and three deaths, while 31 patients remain in isolation and are still recovering from the disease. (PNA)
