CALAPAN, Oriental Mindoro – The provincial government of Oriental Mindoro recently launched the first batch of modernized public utility vehicles (PUVs) class II that will ply the Bongabong-Bansud Gloria-Pinamalayan route during the blessing and launching held in Barangay Sta. Maria in the town of Gloria recently.
“I laud the members of the Bongabong-Bansud Gloria-Pinamalayan Transport Cooperative (BBGP) for their hard work and initiative in making this very important endeavor a reality,” Oriental Mindoro Governor Humerlito Dolor stated.
“Napakahalaga ang pagkakaroon in isang kooperatiba dahil nagkakaroon ang bawat miyembro ng “sense of ownership”. Lahat makikinabang, lahat kabahagi at importante dito ang “shared responsibility” na kung saan lahat ay tutulong upang maresolba ang anumang kahaharaping problema ng kooperatiba bilang isang grupo.”
Dolor assured the members of his support including the construction and improvement of the terminal for the PUVs.

The PUVs will be managed by the Bongabong-Bansud Gloria-Pinamalayan Transport Cooperative (BBGP).
The Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP) is a flagship program of the Duterte administration which envisions a restructured, modern, well-managed, and environmentally sustainable transport sector where drivers and operators have stable, sufficient, and dignified livelihoods while commuters get to their destinations quickly, safely and comfortably.
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) together with the Office of Transportation Cooperatives (OTC) on the other hand aims to consolidate all franchises into one group in order to have a systematic management of PUVs in a certain area.
A total of 20 transport vehicles were released to the BBGP Transport Cooperative with 15 more to be released in due time for the benefit of the riding public.
The 35 units cost about 1.9 million pesos and were funded by the Landbank of the Philippines.
Meanwhile, the Department of Health -MIMAROPA (Oriental/Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) ensured that all transport vehicles are compliant with health protocols and health standards against Covid-19.
The gas station for BBGP cooperative was also inaugurated during the event. (AI/MTVN)
