GENERAL TRIAS, CAVITE — Despite the country remaining under general community quarantine, the Pilipinas Golf Tournaments Incorporated (PGTI) returns with a ‘vengeance’ with a two-stage tourney for the Philippine Golf Tour and Ladies PGT next month at Eagle Ridge Golf and Country Club in General Trias, Cavite.
According to Colo Ventosa, general manager of the organizing PGTI, they have penciled the two-stage tournament to usher in its 2021 season after riding on the crest of a successful restart in a pandemic-hit year.
Ventosa said, however, that with respect to the prevailing quarantine restrictions and minimum health safety protocols being imposed by the government, the tournament will be conducted with premium still on the safety and health of all players and personnel involved in the premier sports event.
Ventosa added that PGTI chose Eagle Ridge in Cavite because it is considered as the country’s largest golfing facility with four championship courses. Besides this, the golf and country club has likewise opted to host PGTI’s March 9 to 12 leg, dubbed as the ICTSI Eagle Ridge Challenge as well as the March 23 to 26 stop which was aptly named the ICTSI Eagle Ridge Championship.
Both the Aoki and Norman layouts of Eagle Ridge are now being groomed to championship form for the said events.
Ventosa reiterated that like the two tournaments at Riviera Golf Club in Silang, Cavite which they held in a bubble environment last year, PGTI is making sure that strict health protocols are followed for the duration of the twin events, which takes place after a three-month break.
“As much as we wanted to provide opportunities for our pros, we have to ensure that it will be safe and responsible to resume our tour,” he pointed out.
Tony Lascuña and Ira Alido won the first two legs of the PGT restart at Riviera while Princess Superal and Pauline del Rosario triumphed in the lady’s legs.
