Rebel leader arrested in Surigao

MANILA — A Surigao rebel group leader was arrested by local authorities during the Simultaneous Anti-Criminality Law Enforcement Operations (SACLEO) against a local terrorist group on Friday, February 26, 2021.

PNP Chief Police General Debold M Sinas announced the arrest of Jenard Pelin Lleno with aliases Jenardo/Geraldo/Bobot, 62 years old and resident of Purok 1, Barangay Bigaan, Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur during a joint operation led by Provincial Intelligence Team Surigao del Sur Regional Intelligence Unit-13 at Purok 1A, Barangay Bigaan, Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

Lleno is the subject of Warrant of Arrest for Attempted Murder under criminal case number 2016-3-4729-T with bail bond amounting to P200,000.

“In the 2nd Quarter 2016 Periodic Status Review (PSR), Lleno was listed as Chairman/President of Bigaan Unified Farmers Association (BUFA) of Barangay Bigaan, Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur under Kahugpungan sa mga Mag-uuma sa Surigao del Sur (KAMASS)”, PNP Chief Sinas said.

Upon arrest, the suspect was apprised of his constitutional rights under the Miranda Doctrine and Anti-Torture Law and is now under the custody of Hinatuan Municipal Police Station for tactical interrogation and other documentation. (AI/MTVN)
