MANILA – The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has surpassed its collection target for February by posting a surplus equivalent to PHP3.988 billion, amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.
Based on the preliminary report from the BOC’s Financial Service released on Tuesday, the bureau collected PHP46.145 billion last month, or 9.5 percent higher than its PHP42.157 billion collection target.
The surplus was recorded after 10 of the 17 Collection Districts surpassed their collection target last month.
These are the ports of Legazpi, Tacloban, Cagayan de Oro, Subic, Batangas, Iloilo, Clark, Davao, the Port of Manila, and Manila International Container Port.
In a statement, Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero also attributed the recorded surplus to the intensified collective efforts of all ports, the improvement of the volume of importation, as well as the government’s effort in ensuring the unhampered movement of goods while maintaining border security and trade facilitation.
He commended the efforts of the men and women of the BOC who, despite the risk to their health and safety, showed their unwavering commitment and dedication to service.
Last January, the bureau also exceeded its collection by almost 7 percent after collecting PHP47.14 billion as against its target of PHP44.06 billion. (PNA)
