House health panel chair takes COVID-19 vaccine jab

MANILA — Leading by example.

That’s what Quezon Representative Angelina “Helen” Tan, Chairperson of the Committee on Health of the House of Representatives exactly did as she received Tuesday (02 March 2021) the first dose of Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine from China on the second day after the arrival of 600,000 doses of the drugs donated by Beijing, and the official start of the country’s nationwide vaccination program.

Tan took the COVID jab at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) as part of his eldest son’s allocation for the family as a surgeon at the VMMC and in support of the country’s COVID-19 vaccination program.

“Huwag tayong matakot magpabakuna, protektahan natin ang isa’t-isa upang sabay-sabay nating malagpasan ang pandemya.” Tan said smilingly after receiving the Sinovac jab. “Let’s support the government’s vaccination program and help stop the COVID-19 pandemic,” she added.

Tan’s inoculation came on the heels of the Committee on Health’s briefing on COVID-19 vaccine rollout early this year where she underscored the need to expedite the COVID-19 inoculation drive without compromising its safety and efficacy in order to build the trust and confidence of the public.
