MANILA — Authorities have arrested a former policeman on Tuesday (02 March 2021) for carnapping and highway robbery in Paco, Manila.
Philippine National Police chief PGen Debold Sinas said Jhovani Chua was arrested by operatives of Criminal Investigation and Detection Group- NCR, Integrity Monitoring Enforcement Group (IMEG), NCR Field Unit, RHPU-NCR at around 4:20 p.m. at the Peninsula Garden Midtown Homes Quirino Ave. Ext., Quezon City.
Chua is accused under Criminal Case no. R-QZN-13-05737 to 38-CR for Violation of R.A 6539 (Anti-Carnapping Law) and PD 532 (Highway Robbery) with a Warrant of Arrest issued by Hon. Editha G. Miña-Aguba, Presiding Judge of RTC Branch 100 of Quezon City.
Chua is a former PNP member assigned with the Regional Headquarters Support Unit of NCRPO and was dismissed from the service in 2011.
Police record shows that in March 2011, Chua and Amiel Arceo hijacked a cargo truck carrying P600,000 worth of canned juice in Dagat-dagatan, Caloocan City, and killed its driver and helper while on June 2011, another incident of the hijacking was initiated by Chua and a certain Joel Samonte on a van loaded with bathroom products worth P380,000 in Barangay N.S. Amoranto, Quezon City.
“Manhunt operations are still underway to arrest and put behind bars the cohorts of Chua. The PNP will deal with errant cops or ex-cops who give the organization a bad name,” Sinas expressed. (AI/MTVN)
