MANILA — Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) Secretary Eduardo Del Rosario is bolstering private sector engagements in the grassroots to witness first-hand the current status of the housing and real estate industry.
Secretary Del Rosario, during a recent visit to two major development sites in Pampanga, stressed that the activity is part of efforts to boost DHSUD’s partnership with the private sector to synchronize public-private efforts in the housing sector.
The housing czar said that going to the grassroots is a very good “learning opportunity.”
“It is an opportunity for me to engage with the private sector and hear from them what’s the ongoing situation regarding housing,” Secretary Del Rosario said.
“So at the national level, I will have on the ground the assessment, so this is part of my learning process and also gain more experience,” he added.
On Friday, the housing czar graced the Thanksgiving and First Anniversary of Westchester Realty Corp of Xevera in Mabalacat City.
In his message, Secretary Del Rosario cited the housing and real estate industry’s pivotal role in pump-priming the national economy.
According to the DHSUD chief, the real estate sector can also become a boon for Filipinos in terms of employment as it can trigger tens of thousands of jobs across the country.
It will be recalled that upon the resumption of the real estate activities in June 2020 amid the lockdown brought about by COVID-19, about 55,000 workers immediately returned to work, thus, providing much-needed livelihood during the pandemic.
The housing czar also noted that 80 other industries are aligned in the construction of housing units.
He likewise reiterated DHSUD’s principles – housing is a right of every Filipino while homeownership is an option. “It is our responsibility in the housing sector to ensure that we help the general public in fulfilling the dream of 81% of Filipino families who would like to have a house of their own,” the housing czar stated.
DHSUD Assistant Secretary Leira Buan, DHSUD Regional Office 3 OIC-Director Lyndon Juntilla and Pag-Ibig Fund chief executive officer Acmad Rizaldy Moti also witnessed the significant event, which was also graced by former Congressman Hon. Rodolfo Valencia, Westchester Realty Corp. founder, and Mabalacat City Mayor Crisostomo Garbo, expressed his gratitude to the government for ensuring solid engagements with the LGU in terms of empowering the local housing and real estate sector.
