MANILA — Senator Risa Hontiveros on Thursday blasted the National Task Force against COVID-19 (NTF) for allowing the use of Sinovac vaccines of China for senior citizens even it posed danger to the elderlies.
In a statement, Hontiveros said that giving Sinovac to our senior citizens is intentional malpractice since the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) ruled that the jab is not for the elderly.
“Nakakagalit ang ganitong pagpupumilit ng National Taskforce against COVID-19 (NTF),” she said.
Hontiveros said that this is another reckless and hypocritical proposal made by the NTF and our highest government officials.
“The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) already made a clear recommendation for Sinovac when it issued an Emergency Use Approval (EUA). CoronaVac is not for senior citizens. Huwag sana maging pasaway ulit sa sarili nating national policy,” she said.
She also lamented that the late notice by NTF on the indemnification fund is the biggest blunder for the late supply of vaccines from other sources.
“At ngayon, ginagamit nila itong palusot kung bakit dapat nang iturok umano ang Sinovac sa seniors citizens, na karamihan ay immunocompromised. Huwag nilang isangkalan ang ating mga nakatatanda para masabi lang na nabigyan na ang mga senior citizens ng bakuna,” she said.
Hontiveros also said that our officials seem at peace with “puwede na” and “basta nagawa” which is why one year later, we’re the only country in the whole Southeast Asia that has an upsurge in cases.
“We will take even more steps backward if we force the most vulnerable sector in the pandemic to take a vaccine that is not recommended for them. Let’s start walking in the right direction before things get worse,” she said. (AI/MTVN)
