BAGUIO CITY – The mayor of Kabayan town in Benguet who died Saturday due to cardiac arrest was tested positive of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
The Public Information Office (PIO)-Kabayan announced this on Monday morning. “We are sad to announce that the two (RHU Kabayan and Hospital) swab tests of Mayor Faustino Aquisan turned out positive. Everybody who have close contact with him from March 6 to 19, 2021 are required to do mandatory home quarantine and wait for the assessment and recommendations of the contact tracing teams, patient management and monitoring teams,” it posted on its official website.
Aquisan was rushed to the Notre Dame de Chartres Hospital on Saturday (March 20) due to cardiac arrest where he eventually expired.
The mayor was tested at Kabayan prior to being rushed to the hospital, which was repeated at the medical facility. Both positive test results were received on Sunday evening after the official was declared dead.
He was immediately cremated as a medical procedure.
According to information, the ashes of Mayor Aquisan is at the Rex Chapel of the Cathedral of Resurrection along Magsaysay Avenue, Baguio City for about three days and will be transferred to his residence in La Trinidad, Benguet or at Kabayan town where he served as mayor.
Kabayan, located some three hours away drive from this city, has recorded Covid-19 positive cases in November 2020.
The town was able to prevent the infection from spreading by implementing strict entry protocols at its borders. (PNA)
