MANILA — Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan expressed full support to the protest made by Department of National Defense (DND) against the presence of more than 220 Chinese maritime militia vessels in West Philippine Sea (WPS).
In a statement, Pangilinan said that while the world is busy battling Covid-19, China is unabated in its militarization and expansionism in the West Philippine Sea.
“Dahil dito sa 220 Chinese militia boats sa Julian Felipe Reef (Union Reef) sa West Philippine Sea, hindi ba parang nananadya at ginagawang “geopolitical weapon” ng China ang mga donated na bakuna?,” he said.
“Kaya sinusuportahan natin ang ating mga magigiting na sundalo at ang kabuuang Sandatahang Lakas sa pag-coordinate sa iba’t ibang ahensya ng pamahalaan para mag-file ng diplomatic protest over this clear provocative action,” he added.
Pangilinan said that this is not the first time Chinese warship were spotted in the area since they started occupying and building military islands in the area.
“We are behind the government in asserting our rights in our seas. We may not be as strong militarily but we are certainly strong legally, morally, and diplomatically,” he said.
“Di man tayo kasing laki o kasing lakas ng kanilang military, tayo naman ay nasa tama dahil atin ‘to,” he added. (AI/MTVN)
