TACLOBAN CITY – Eastern Visayas has formed the regional task force (RTF) against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) recovery cluster to come up with action plans to restart social and economic activities in the region, the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) announced on Thursday.
To be led by the NEDA regional office here, the newly-organized cluster is tasked to draft an action plan to boost economic recovery while preventing the further spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19). The cluster had its first meeting on March 15, 2021.
“The cluster is divided into task groups, which have general objectives geared towards social and economic recovery from the impacts of the pandemic. These task groups are on economic recovery, social recovery, governance, food resiliency, and transport support and local travel,” NEDA assistant regional director Annielyn Costiniano said in a phone interview.
The cluster is composed of officials from local government units, national government agencies in the region, and Regional Development Council private sector representatives.
Task groups are headed by the Department of Trade and Industry (economic recovery), Department of Social Welfare and Development (social recovery), Department of the Interior and Local Government (governance), and Department of Transportation (transport support and local travel).
“The timeline to complete the action plan is as early as possible, but this is an ongoing initiative, and task groups are expected to accomplish something every month,” Costiniano added.
The formation of a new cluster complies with the directive of the National Task Force (NTF) against Covid-19 Memorandum Circular No. 4 entitled “Reorganization of Regional/Local Task Force Against Covid-19.”
The task force introduced the enhanced structure to be more responsive to the current needs and emerging realities in the regions. (PNA)
