MANILA — The Philippine National Police has opened up more spaces in Camp Crame as temporary quarantine facilities for the treatment of police personnel infected with Covid-19.

According to PNP Chief General Debold M Sinas, the entire compound of Kiangan Billeting and Transient Quarters with sports facilities has been reconfigured further into quarantine facilities for PNP COVID-19 patients, currently with a 55-bed capacity.

“It is not true and totally unfair to speculate that our policemen are not being taken care of,” the chief PNP said.

He explained that the Kiangan Emergency Treatment Facility is currently the primary quarantine facility in Camp Crame for any COVID-positive cases.

PBGen Magnaye, Director of the PNP Health Service said that the increase in the cases was unexpected among police personnel, some of whom also brought members of their families who tested positive. There were also members of the LGUs who also took advantage of the facility for assessment of their conditions.

The pavilions by the poolside at the back of the building and covered tennis court is a temporary holding area or triage with an 80-bed capacity where patients are assessed and examined by PNP doctors to determine further medical interventions needed.

Recently turned over by the Directorate for Logisitics is an additional 57 beds in the same compound covering the Tennis Court and 40 more beds at the Tae Kwon Do Gym. They now provide shelter for asymptomatic patients, including those from the poolside.

Both symptomatic and asymptomatic cases are assigned to their respective quarantine facilities and individually transported by PNP ambulance to either, PICC, ULTRA, Nice Hotel, or LGU facilities in NCR and Clark, he said. Those with “symptomatic” cases are brought to NCRPO and SPD facilities.

To complement medical interventions, the PNP, thru the Police Community Affairs and Development Group is undertaking the Corona Virus Awareness Response and Empowerment (CARE) infodemic drive for PNP personnel in all regions of the country.

Different police regional and provincial/district offices and national support units have their respective quarantine facilities in order to addess the billeting needs of personnel found positive of the virus.

Last Sunday, General Sinas took time out while in quarantine at Kiangan billeting to preside over a virtual conference with all concerned officials of the PNP to address the various issues and concerns following the spike in the virus infections among PNP personnel.

Strict measures have been imposed inside Camp Crame to ensure the decrease of COVID19 contamination. (AI|MTVN)
