MANILA — The Department of Health has on Monday (29 March 2021) posted a new single-day record of 10,016 new coronavirus cases.

That number, the largest so far since the outbreak of the virus in March last year, pushed the country’s accumulated caseload to 731,894.

The record-breaking number of Covid infections was recorded on a day the whole of Metro Manila nearby provinces of Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) slid anew to strict enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

Intended to stem the rising tide of Covid-19 cases, the ECQ will end on Sunday, 04 April 2021 but some observers aver, the IATF may extend it further through the 15th if and when the figures remain on high.

At a glance:

Active cases: 115,495 or 15.8% of the overall figure
Recoveries: 78, or now 603,213 in total
Deaths: 16, pushing the count to 13,186
