Cotabato City imposes ‘no swab test, no entry’

COTABATO CITY – Commercial flight passengers entering this city are required to undergo a coronavirus swab test with negative results before they are allowed entry.

“The passengers must present negative RT-PCR results and certificates of acceptance from their respective barangays or the city government for uncomplicated contact tracing,” Mayor Cynthia Guiani-Sayadi told reporters here Tuesday.

Passengers leaving Cotabato City must also adhere to anti-Covid-19 requirements imposed in their destinations.

Sayadi’s latest directive that took effect March 29 came after 10 inbound passengers from two Cotabato-bound flights recently tested positive from rapid antigen tests conducted by health workers stationed at the Awang Airport in nearby Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao.

All the other passengers of the two airlines with infected travelers underwent swab tests and advised to go on self-quarantine until confirmatory results come out.

“The particular instance prompted the Cotabato City Inter-Agency Task Force to implement stricter guidelines because of the surge of Covid-19 cases in the NCR,” the mayor said.

Halima Satol-Ibrahim, city information chief, said the city currently has 27 active Covid-19 cases. (PNA)
