MANILA — In response to a query on whether “lugaw” (porridge) is an essential food or not, the position of the Philippine National Police (PNP) is that any kind of food that is en route for delivery as food order by residents during the period of enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in the NCR Bubble is considered as part of essential goods.
Thus declared the PNP contrary to a “decree” by a barangay tanod from a certain locality which became viral in social media as he prevented a food delivery driver from delivering the “lugaw” saying it is not considered as “essential goods and services.”
“We say again, unless for any other reason in violation of law, the delivery of food to a requesting party on quarantine at their residence is essential and must not be subject of issuance of LGU-sanctioned ticket done within the NCR Bubble,’ part of the statement of the PNP sent to media by Public Information Office Chief, BGen. Ildebrandi Usana said.
The PNP also encouraged the public for any complaint by the aggrieved person, seek assistance from the nearest police station for appropriate action. (AI/MTVN)
