COTABATO CITY – The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PDEA-BARMM) has destroyed PHP22 million worth of illegal drugs at a private thermal facility in Maguindanao.
PDEA-BARMM Director Juvenal Azurin said Thursday that the drugs comprised 3, 263 grams of shabu, and dried marijuana leaves that were seized during various PDEA and police anti-drugs operations.
“These evil drugs will pose no more danger to the community, Azurin told reporters here in an interview. He said the burning of the illegal stuff on Wednesday afternoon was witnessed, among others, by lawyer Jaressa G. Guiani, vice-president of Integrated Bar of the Philippines – Cotabato Chapter, who represented Cotabato City Mayor Frances Cynthia Guiani-Sayadi, to the activity.
“The main objective of the destruction of the drugs is to show the public that these confiscated items are not being recycled,” he said.
Azurin added that as much as they want the drugs destroyed immediately after every operation, legal procedures must be followed like obtaining orders from the courts.
He said that the obliteration of the illegal drugs complies with the guidelines set on the custody and disposition of seized dangerous drugs required under Section 21, Article II of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and Dangerous Drugs Board Resolution No. 1, Series of 2002.
