BALANGA CITY, Bataan – A total of 77 inmates at the Bataan Provincial Jail were found infected with coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), based on the latest report of the Provincial Health Office on Monday.
They form part of the 99 new confirmed Covid-19 cases in the province.
The PHO said the persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) were all placed in an isolation facility in this city.
City health officer Dr. Mark Banzon said an investigation is still ongoing as to how the PDLs got infected.
The number of Covid-19 cases in Bataan is now 4,523, out of which 461 are active, 3,955 have recovered with 107 recorded deaths.
Aside from the 77 PDLs, the other new confirmed cases are five from Pilar; four from Balanga City; three from Dinalupihan; two each from Orion, Mariveles and Abucay; and one each from Orani, Bagac, Limay and Samal.
The PHO said the number of new confirmed Covid-19 cases is the highest recorded in a day since January this year.
Meanwhile, there were nine new recoveries logged in the province. Three are from Abucay, two each from Balanga City and Mariveles, and one each from Orion and Pilar.
A 51-year-old man was the latest fatality from the virus.
The PHO also said 6,783 medical front-liners have so far been vaccinated against Covid-19. (PNA)
