MANILA—Luis Manzano and Jessy Mendiola dropped a bomb just recently when they revealed that they have been married for more than a month.
The civil wedding ceremony was held at The Farm at San Benito in Lipa City, Batangas on February 21, 2021 in a very intimate occasion. They only had a total of 20 invited guests composed of their respective families at close friends from showbiz.
Present were the groom’s father Edu Manzano, his mother Lipa City Congresswoman Vilma Santos along with Senator Ralph Recto.
The usual wacky TV host-actor was in tears when he saw his bride walking towards him and to the altar. So was Jessy who was so nervous and teary-eyed.
What everybody thought to be a serious ceremony became lighter when Luis said his vow:
“They don’t know that I come running home when I fall down. They don’t know who picks me up when no one is
around…” for which Jessy gave way to her laughter as she said” “Parang kanta ‘to, ha.”
Luis actually quoted some lines from Gary Valenciano’s song “Warrior is a Child.”
He then again turned serious and with a crack voice and in tears, Luis told Jessy: “I want to promise that I will love you each day that comes even on those days na pareho tayong hindi kamahal-mahal. I will choose to love you.
“I promise to be your rock when you are weak, to put a smile on your face even on the darkest of days…”
For Jessy’s part, she said: “Today is the beginning of our journey, our lives together. I choose to spend today and all of my tomorrows with you.”
In an interview done by pep.ph on Saturday, April 3, Jessy said, “Biglaan lang ang decision namin.”
“Supposedly dapat June ang full wedding pero nag-decide kami na i-move na lang ang full wedding sa December at mag-civil na lang muna ng February.” It was Luis who chose the venue.
According to Luis, they did not have any nitty-gritty process in their preparations. “Medyo kailangan lang magbawas ng tao talaga para safe ang lahat. Kinailangan i-follow lahat ng safety protocols kasi mas importante yun.
“Biglaan lang ang civil wedding because, honestly, nothing is certain, but we do not regret one single bit of our decision. Halos three weeks lang ang preparation namin.
“Salamat sa organizer/ coordinator and friend namin na si Joanne Angeles. Nagawa niya lahat ng pag-aasikaso at pagmo-mount ng wedding.”
The mayor of Lipa City Eric B. Africa officiated the wedding ceremony of Luis and Jessy. Pat Dy who took the pre-nup shots in Amanpulo, Palawan was also the couple’s wedding photographer. Bob Nicolas was in-charge of the video shoot, while Gideon Hermosa was the venue stylist.
Jessy looked stunning in her bridal look. “Si Patricia Santos ang gumawa ng wedding dress ko and si Paulo Lazaro naman ang suit ni Luis,” Jessy said.
Patty Yap was the stylist for Jessy, while Rex Atienza and Jay Sarmiento did the styling for Luis who was clad in a pink suit.
Asked on what was the reaction of Luis’ parents Edu Manzano and Vilma Santos-Recto on having their civil wedding, Jessy said: “Sinabihan namin sila at natuwa naman sila sa desisyon namin,”
Then on how is the first month of togetherness as a couple, Luis said: “Ang laki ng dagdag na kilig sa pakiramdam ng pagiging kasal. Masaya kami na finally nagawa na namin ang isa sa pinaka-importante na bagay para sa aming dalawa.”
Are their adjustments? “Wala namang adjustments pa, sinisigurado lang namin na nakikinig kami sa isa’t isa.”
Wedding in December
In previous vlogs of the 28-year-old actress, she mentioned that they plan to have a church wedding in December which is her birth month. December 3 is her birthday.
Luis admitted that they have started to plan and prepare for their church wedding in December. So, will the baby come in first before the church wedding? Is there any wish for the gender of their first born? “Kahit anong gender basta healthy,” Luis replied.
After the civil wedding, they have planned to have their honeymoon in Amanpulo, but Luis said that they are very careful, so honeymoon can wait.
This day April 4, at 7 p.m., Jessy released the details of their intimate wedding on her YouTube channel.
While the couple’s civil wedding had only three-week preparation, they are more hands on to the details of planned “full wedding” in December.
“Yes, nag-umpisa na ang planning kasi siyempre hindi naman madali magplano ng kasal,” Luis said in an email interview on April 3. First, they want the location to be in Palawan. “Gusto namin sa tabing dagat sana, kasi parehas kami mahilig sa beach.”
What if there is still pandemic in December? The 39-year-old actor-TV host simply said, “Tingnan natin, nothing is certain talaga, e. Kaya we are also keeping the beach wedding intimate din, ang importante, andun buong families namin.
“Pero, hopefully talagang makauwi ang parents ni Jessy for the full wedding.”
Jessy’s Lebanese father Roger Tawile lives in Bahrain.
Meanwhile, Jessy’s mom Didith Garvida failed to attend her daughter’s civil wedding but they were able to talk thru video call including conversation with her “balae” Vilma Santos. (ECDiao/MTVN)
