Nueva Ecija PNP seizes smuggles cigarettes

GEN. Natividad, Nueva Ecija – Members of the Nueva Ecija Police arrested a man carrying suspected smuggled cigarettes in Gen Natividad, Nueva Ecija on Saturday, April 3, 2021.

According to Acting Provincial Police Director Jaime Santos, the suspect, identified as Wilson Dela Cruz. 20 years old, single, vendor, and a resident of Brgy. Bantug Hacienda, Talavera, Nueva Ecija was flagged down by the patrol team of Gen. Natividad Municipal Police Station while conducting “Oplan Sita” along Brgy. Poblacion, Gen Natividad, Nueva Ecija on board his tricycle.

Upon inspection by authorities, they discovered forty-four (44) reams of Two Moon Menthol, Twenty-eight (28) reams of Two Moon Lights and Twenty-five (25) reams of Fort Cigarettes worth Php24,900.

Dela Cruz failed to present proper documents for the said items.

“He is now facing charges for violation of Tobacco Act of 2003 (RA 9211) and Sections 258 and 263 of the National Internal Revenue Code (NIRC) as amended,” Santos said.

The “Oplan Sita” being conducted by the Philippine National Police Regional Office 3 along with other government agencies prevents the entry and proliferation of contrabands in the region. (AI/MTVN)
