MANILA — Physicians attending Joseph “Erap” Estrada has placed the former president on a ventilator as his pneumonia due to COVID-19 suddenly worsened at mid-day Tuesday, 06 April 2021.
Estrada’s sons and former senators JV Ejercito and Jinggoy Estrada announced their father’s health condition online.
“My father’s condition suffered a setback as his pneumonia worsened,” the younger Estrada said on his post on social media.
“Because of this and the resulting increase in oxygen requirement, his doctors decided to place him on mechanical ventilation.”
“This was done to improve oxygen delivery as well as to prevent the tiring of his respiratory mechanism,” Jinggoy Estrada added.
Earlier Jinggoy also reported his father, also a former Manila mayor, was sedated and under intensive care.
JV Ejercito, on the other hand, claimed earlier that his father was recovering “very well” in the past few days before his pneumonia suddenly worsened.
“COVID is unpredictable,” JV Ejercito said.
“Your prayers would mean a lot.” (AI/MTVN)
