Dawlah Islamiyah leader killed in Marawi; 8 gov’t troopers hurt in clash

MANILA — Another leader of the terrorist group Dawlah Islamiyah was killed during a joint police and military operation in Lanao del Sur on Monday morning.
Citing intelligence reports from PRO-BAR and Special Action Force, PNP chief Gen. Debold Sinas said police operatives served a Warrant of Arrest to USOP B NASIF alias “Abu Asraf” for Frustrated Murder, and Murder at around 3 a.m. on April 12 at Barangay Guimba, Marawi City, Lanao Del Sur.

Abu Asraf is listed as the DI-ISIS Lanao Sub Leader and No. 2 Man of Abu Zacaria. NASIF is the subject of a Warrant of Arrest in three Criminal Cases for Murder and Frustrated Murder issued by Hon Judge Albert Quinto of Br 11, RTC 12 of Malabang, Lanao del Sur.

During the said operation the suspect along with several unidentified male companions engaged in a 30-minute firefight with the government troops which resulted in the wounding of seven (7) PNP personnel and one (1) Army officer, they were rushed to the nearest hospital in Marawi City for treatment.

Abu Asraf and his wife identified as Khalil Mufliha were discovered injured after the encounter and immediately brought to the Amai Pakpak Medical Center, but Abu Asraf was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

The rest of the armed suspects were able to escape in the midst of the armed confrontation. (AI/MTVN)
