MANILA – Over 250,000 formal workers in the tourism sector have received their cash assistance under the Covid-19 Adjustment Measures Program (CAMP) of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), an official said on Friday.
In a Laging Handa presser, Labor Assistant Secretary Dominique Tutay of the Employment and General Administration Cluster of the DOLE reported that some 250,000 workers affected by the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic have benefitted from CAMP translating to PHP1.26 billion as of April 15.
“We also have processed more than 151,000 workers from tourism-related sector to the tune of PHP758 million that are being processed for payment within the month of April,” Tutay said.
She added that there are still available funds from the allocation, where they expect to accommodate some 200,000 more workers.
“There is still PHP1 billion left from the tourism budget that can accommodate around 200,000 workers and hopefully, we will be able to finish this before the month of June,” she said.
The government has allocated a PHP3.1 billion budget under CAMP for tourism workers.
The CAMP is a one-time cash assistance worth PHP5,000. (PNA)
