PCG cancels sea voyage in Surigao Norte, Dinagat

BUTUAN CITY – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) stations in the provinces of Surigao del Norte and the Province of Dinagat Islands have temporarily suspended the travels of sea vessels on Saturday due to Typhoon Bising.

In an advisory, the PCG station in Surigao del Norte said the province is under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 based on the published Severe Weather Bulletin No. 4 of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued on the same day.

PCG said the temporary suspension also seeks to prevent possible effects of the weather disturbance on the traveling sea vessels in the area.

As of 11 a.m. Saturday, PAGASA said “Bising” slightly intensified while moving northwestward over the Philippine Sea with maximum sustained winds of 185 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 230 km/h.

“All vessels are reminded to take precautionary measures and be extra vigilant in monitoring the movement of the typhoon if deemed to be affected by said weather disturbance,” PCG Surigao del Norte chief Elaine Pangilinan said in the advisory.

Vessels that intend to take shelter shall be permitted with written request with no passengers or cargo on board, the advisory added.

On Friday, the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council in Caraga Region has advised all Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils to be alert and take precautionary measures for the possible effect of “Bising”. (PNA)
