Laoag vulnerable residents yet to receive P2.8-M aid from DSWD

LAOAG CITY – The local office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) here is currently assessing the would-be beneficiaries of its Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) program.

Under the General Appropriations Act, Laoag City has been allocated around PHP2.8 million for this purpose.

“The city government ensures that the AICS program will be given to those who are truly qualified to receive the same,” Mayor Michael M. Keon said in a statement on Monday.

This was in response to a letter-request of Rep. Ria Cristina Fariñas of the Ilocos Norte first district to assess the AICS recipients.

The AICS program is part of the DSWD’s Protective Services Program (PSP) to help local governments, which offers various types of assistance to those in need.

As stated in the department’s guidelines, qualified beneficiaries are those from the informal sector and other poor, marginalized, vulnerable and disadvantaged individuals who need medical, education, burial, and transportation assistance. (PNA)
