MANILA — What Quezon City policemen thought was a simple arrest of a murder suspect by virtue of a warrant issued by the court turned out as a bloody encounter as the suspect decided to shoot it out with the police which resulted in his death in Montalban, Rizal.
Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director Brigadier General Antonio Yarra identified the suspect as Ramon Esmani Quillo, 48, married, a security guard and native of Bacolod and resident of Lower Pinatubo, Amityville in Barangay San Jose, Rodriguez, Rizal.
Yarra said that Quillo was declared dead on arrival at the H Vill Hospital by Dr. Mary Grace Cawaling, who attended the wounded suspect after the brief firefight with his arresting officers from the QCPD Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) and Regional Intelligence Unit-National Capital Region (RIU-NCR).
In his report to the QCPD chief, CIDU chief Major Elmer Monsalve disclosed that Quillo had a standing arrest warrant for murder under criminal case number R-QZN-16-14567 issued by Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 225 presiding judge Maria Luisa Lesle Gonzales-Betic and with no bail recommended.
Monsalve narrated that at about 9:00 in the morning of May 3, 2021, they were able to intercept the suspect at the corner of Spillway and Wawa Road in Barangay San Rafael, Montalban, Rizal, and were about to serve the warrant when Quillo, who was riding a motorcycle without a license plate, sensed the presence of the operatives at the area and without provocation fired towards the approaching policemen.
A shootout ensued which resulted in the killing of the suspect.
Brig. Gen. Yarra commended his men who were involved in the encounter, lauding them for their courage in facing an armed suspect.
“Binabalaan ko po ulit ang mga suspek na mapayapang sumuko na lamang at huwag ng manlaban pa sa ating kapulisan upang maiwasan ang mga ganitong pangyayari. Pinapa-alalahanan ko rin ang ating mga kapulisan na doble ingat dahil may mga suspek tayo na armado at nanlalaban,” he stressed. (AI/MTVN)
