DUMAGUETE CITY – Negros Oriental has recorded 23 additional recoveries from the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) even as new infections continue to rise in the province.
Assistant Provincial Health Officer Dr. Liland Estacion, health committee chair of the province’s Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID), in a virtual press briefing Monday afternoon, said the latest recoveries were included in results released for April 29 and 30 by the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital Molecular Laboratory (NOPHML).
She added that 93 new active cases were reported in the same period from Dumaguete City, 21; Bayawan City, 12; Sibulan, 11; Canlaon City, 10; Tanjay City, nine; Dauin, eight; La Libertad, six; Ayungon, five; San Jose and Sta. Catalina, three each; Jimalalud and Siaton, two each; and Guihulngan City, one.
As of May 3, the total caseload of Negros Oriental is 2,568, broken down into 2,111 recoveries, 387 active infections, and 70 mortalities.
Estacion reiterated her appeal to the public to be extra careful and vigilant as local or community transmission of the virus is now prevailing in the province.
“We have to always remember that many Covid-19 positive cases are asymptomatic and so we can never tell who we are exposed to,” she said in mixed English and Cebuano dialect.
The best prevention is to stay home unless it is necessary to get out of the house, and to continue observing the basic health protocols, she added. (PNA)
