Megawide, JV partners ink ready-mix supply contract for Malolos-Clark railway project

Megawide Construction Corporation’s (“Megawide’s” or the “Company’s”) Batching Plant Unit signed last 21 April 2021 a subcontracting agreement with the Joint Venture of Hyundai E&C, Megawide, and Dong-ah Geological (HMDJV) to supply ready-mix concrete for the construction of the PNR Clark Phase 2 (Malolos-Clark) railway project – Package 1.

The P2.9 billion contract provides for the installation and operation of concrete batching plants and supply of ready-mix concrete to the project. Related to this, the Company will build two mobile batching facilities with rated capacities of 120 and 80 cubic meters per hour, and will be the first among Megawide’s plans to integrate an ice plant in the production line as a means of optimizing temperature to produce higher quality concrete. The Company specifically employed this innovation for the project, given the site’s relatively warm temperature, to ensure that the concrete product achieves its ideal strength and other technical specifications at the minimum required curing time.

“The PNR Clark Phase 2 promises to improve transportation of people, goods, and services from Central Luzon to the National Capital Region, with the goal of boosting mobility, trade, and commerce between the two regions. Through our combined expertise in engineering and construction, we would be able to meet and support the demands of the railway project by ensuring operational efficiency and raw material availability, through the steady supply of consistent, high-quality ready-mix concrete,” Markus Hennig, Megawide Executive Vice President, said.

Megawide previously announced that its business units are gearing up to support the construction of the Package 1 of the PNR Clark Phase 2, a flagship project of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) under the government’s BUILD, BUILD, BUILD, program.

Contract Package N01, which was awarded by the DOTr and Philippine National Railways (PNR) in 2020, covers 17 kilometers of elevated viaducts, seven (7) balanced cantilever bridges, and two (2) stations from Malolos and Calumpit in Bulacan, as well as Apalit up to Minalin in Pampanga. This contract was signed between the DOTr and the Joint Venture of Megawide Construction Corporation, Hyundai Engineering & Construction, and Dong-ah Geological Engineering Company.

To note, the 54-kilometer PNR Clark Phase 2 (Malolos-Clark), which will feature the country’s first airport railway express service, forms part of the 148-kilometer NSCR Project, stretching from Laguna to Clark, Pampanga. The other two segments are the PNR Clark Phase 1 (Tutuban-Malolos) and PNR Calamba (Solis-Calamba). (MTVN)
