CALBAYOG City, Samar – The Department of Transportation (DOTr) today led by Secretary Arthur M. Tugade formally opened a modern, wider newly-renovated Calbayog Airport in Samar, Eastern Visayas.
The airport has been neglected for years and it was only under the Duterte Administration that it was given due attention.
After inspecting the airport in 2017, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) together with the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) started the modernization at renovation of the facility to improve its services.
Among the projects completed was the new Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) with modern shed, wider apron, new taxiway, and drainage system.
Restrooms, pre-departure lounge, and runway were also renovated.
The modernization and renovation of airports including sea ports to further boost the economy of the provinces is a flagship project of President Rodrigo R. Duterte under the “BUILD, BUILD, BUILD” Program. (AI/MTVN)
