LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu — With the newly-issued resolution of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) allowing foreign tourists, Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan on Wednesday expressed elation over such move, saying it will give back employment to many of his constituents who have been adversely affected by the pandemic.
He noted that the pandemic has cost the lives of many of his constituents who lost their jobs and livelihood in the tourism industry.
“Ang mga tawo gigutom na, kinahanglan na jud tagaan nato og pagkaon ang atong mga tawo, (The people are hungry. We must give food to our people),” Chan stressed.
He brushed off apprehension that the new strain of the novel coronavirus disease (Covid-19) will test negative and will only appear after five days.
“Naka-bubble man ni sila (inside hotels) especially kung turista ” Chan said.
Based on the newly issued IATF resolution foreign nationals are now allowed to enter the country provided, among other conditions, that they have a valid visa, pre-booked accommodation for at least 7 nights in an accredited hotel, and others.
The mayor said this has already been agreed upon in his earlier meeting with tourism officials and hotel and resort owners.
Chan explained further that there is an urgent need to carefully strike a balance between the revival of the economy and the health and safety of his constituents. (AI/MTVN)
