MANILA — Only 11 promising poets out of 143 aspirants made it to the shortlist of entries for poetry in English category of the Maharlika Awards for Literature.
The delay in releasing the shortlist was due to the overwhelming entries.
The 11 promising poets are Ronald Rei Aceldo who submitted his entry entitled “Dread Overload”, “Your mind in a Jupiter”, Julius Victor Baculo, “Everything”, “In Time”, Desiree Balota, “On the Birth Date of the Steelbarn”, Lean Wynette Donguienes, “Locked Away”, Julia Hao, “Death in the typewriter: A Sestina”, John Marin, “Psychosexual Stages of Nondevelopment”, “Eulogy Reviews”, Lloyd Ericson Rodriguez, “I Killed the Bully”, “Thy will be done”, “Only Reminds Me of You”, Mark Rolan Villarba, “Before Sunset”, “Eden”, “Unforgettable caress”, Nahum Antares, “Hearts and Phantoms”, Mark Welson Chengong, “Eight”, and John Gabriel Gantala, “A garden in your planet”.
Award-winning poet Edwin M. Cordevilla said the criteria used in selecting the shortlist of entries were based on their cohesiveness, grammar, use of poetic elements, rhythm and creativity. (AI/MTV)
