MANILA – Authorities have so far apprehended a total of 44,157 violators of health and safety protocols, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said on Tuesday.
In a televised briefing with President Rodrigo Duterte, Año said these include 32,867 violators of the rule on the proper wearing of face masks, 585 violators on the prohibition of mass gatherings, and 10,705 violators of the physical distancing rule.
Out of this number, 39,966 were either warned or fined, 937 were arrested, 249 were subjected to inquest proceedings, 697 were charged, and 2,308 rendered community service.
“Tiningnan po namin yung talaan sa araw araw, nakikita po namin na bumababa ang numero ng mga violators. Ang ibig pong sabihin ay pumapasok sa isipan ng mga kababayan natin ang pagsusuot ng mask at ito ay magandang trend sapagkat mas makakatulong para maiwasan yung ating tinatawag na transmission (As we check on the list everyday, we see a downtrend in the number of violators. This means wearing of masks is now a must for our fellow Filipinos and this is a good trend because this will help prevent what we call as transmission),” said Año.
PHP79-million drugs seized in recent anti-drug ops
Año also reported that the government’s anti-illegal drug campaign has been relentless amid the pandemic.
He said authorities have seized PHP79.1 million worth of illegal drugs in 737 operations from May 12 to 16.
“The confiscated illegal drugs were shabu, five kilos, and marijuana, 375.9 kilos. A total of PHP79,156,304.62 (from) May 11-16 police operations,” he said.
Año said 998 were arrested, four surrendered, while nine suspects died in these operations. (PNA)
