CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga –The Department of Agriculture in Region 3 (DA-3) has provided cash assistance to backyard hog raisers affected by the African swine fever (ASF) outbreak in this province.
Crispulo Bautista Jr., DA-3 regional executive director, said on Tuesday the assistance is aimed at helping the hog raisers recover from their losses.
The DA allotted indemnity payment amounting to PHP5,000 per pig to backyard raisers whose hogs were culled due to ASF.
A total of PHP4.11 million cash assistance was distributed on Tuesday by the DA to 53 swine raisers of Barangay Gulap, Candaba town, this province.
Mario Sebastian, one of the beneficiaries, thanked the DA-3 for the financial aid.
“Gagamitin ko itong pera sa aking negosyo na manukan, mula nang ako’y maging apektado ng sakit na ASF naisipan kong pumasok sa industriya ng poultry. Malaking tulong ito sa akin at sa aking pamilya (I will use this money in my poultry business. Since I became affected by ASF disease, I thought of entering the poultry industry. This is a big help to me and my family,” Sebastian said in a social media post.
Bautista said the DA’s indemnification program will continue for hog raisers affected by the ASF.
In August last year, the DA-3, in partnership with the provincial government of Pampanga, gave out some PHP32 million worth of livestock to swine raisers in this province who were severely affected by the hog disease outbreak.
The ASF contagion caused a massive setback to the province’s booming swine industry, affecting a total of 6,718 hog raisers. (PNA)
