MALASIQUI, Pangasinan – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is opening 6,153 slots for students and out-of-school-youths in the Ilocos Region under this year’s Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES).
DOLE Ilocos regional office information officer Justin Paul Marbella said the total funds allotted for this year’s SPES amounts to PHP24.4 million.
“There are 125 employers who joined the program this year, 88 of them are local government units (LGUs) and the 37 are private employers,” he said in an interview on Wednesday.
Marbella said the 88 percent of SPES workers will be deployed in LGUs, while the 12 percent will be under private employers.
“Nag-start na po yung iba. Depende po kasi sa period of implementation but mostly May to June po ang start. (Some have already started working depending on the period of implementation of the program but mostly in May to June),” he said.
Marbella added DOLE prioritizes the safety of beneficiaries during the implementation of the program due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
Part of this year’s SPES budget was sourced from last year’s SPES fund as DOLE opted not to have the program implemented last year due to the pandemic. (PNA)
