CAMP CAPINPIN, Tanay, Rizal — An army support personnel was killed and a soldier wounded in an ambush allegedly perpetrated by the New People’s Army following a gift-giving activity in Buenavista, Quezon on Saturday, June 5.
Police Staff Sergeant Leobert Velasquez of the Buenavista police, identified the slain government militiaman as Romar Gono while army man Armel Bajamunde sustained bullet wounds but is now in stable condition.
According to BGen Norwyn Romeo P Tolentino PA, Commander of the 201st Infantry Division, the enforcers were on their way back to camp when the incident happened.
“They were returning to their temporary base when they were ambushed by seven (7) CPP-NPA terrorists under a certain Philip Enteria a.k.a Cyrus along a provincial road at Brgy Bagong Silang, Buenavista, Quezon,” BGen Tolentino said.
The commander also stated that the casualty on the enemy side is still being verified while one CAFGU Active Auxiliary was confirmed dead, while Bajamunde who was injured during the ambush is now in a stable condition at the hospital.
It can be recalled that the CNTs have previously ambushed 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company of Occidental, Mindoro after conducting a “Serbisyo Caravan” at Brgy Nicolas in Magsaysay, Occidental Mindoro, last May 29 and have resulted in the death of three police officers and the injury of 11 others.
The 2ID leadership strongly condemned this attack and reiterated its commitment in the relentless effort to find and finish the remnants of the NPA in its area of responsibility that is still active in conducting extortion and terroristic activities. (AI/MTVN)
