LAPU-LAPU CITY, CEBU — Shedding his slapstick comedy, this time Senator Vicente “Tito” Sotto sounds serious and sincere when he disclosed that he will run for vice president if Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson runs for president in the 2022 polls.
This time, it will be no laughing matter as the Senate President’s roots are from vote-rich Cebu island province while Lacson comes from Cavite which is another bailiwick with abundant votes.
“[W]e are seriously contemplating on it, kasi there are some groups and some sectors that have approached me and Sen. Lacson. If Sen. Lacson decides to run for president, I will definitely be his running mate,” Sotto bared on Monday, June 7.
Some political analysts said if the “La-So” (Lacson-Sotto) tandem materializes, it will possibly square off with the possible team ups of “Dut-Dut” (Sara Duterte-Digong Duterte), “Sa-Gi” (Sara Duterte-Gibo Teodoro), “Bo-PoeL (Bongbong Marcos-Grace Poe Llamanzares), “Ma-Mo” (Manny Pacquiao-Isko Moreno), “Pa-Ca” (Pacquiao-Alan Peter Cayetano) and “Ro-4” (Leni Robredo-Antonio Trillanes IV).
“Baka mabulaga ang buong bansa kapag nanalo si Tito,” the analysts were one in saying.
Sotto is also a stalwart of the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) now headed by billionaire Ramon S. Ang who is the chief executive officer of the business empire San Miguel Corporation.
“I am not in the habit of saying that I will not run and then all of a sudden I will file my certificate of candidacy. Let the other politicians do that. Not in our party (NPC),” Sotto added.
The movie comedian-turned-lawmaker first admitted in a television interview that he was thinking about joining the 2022 vice presidential race.
Sotto said he would make his final decision after President Rodrigo Duterte delivers his last State of Nation Address (SONA) next month. (AI/MTVN)
