LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu – They would make a “lovely political marriage” – a lady lawyer who’s “man enough” to use her fists to defend the defenseless and a lawyer who is supercool – if and when the tandem of presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte and former Defense Secretary Gibo Teodoro materializes.
Teodoro, who ran but “bigo” (lost) in the 2010 presidential elections, aired firm belief that Inday Sara – as the presidential daughter is fondly called — would make a good president if she decides to run.
“My impression with Mayor Sara talking about issues is that she will make a very good president of this country. She would have the ability to unite a lot of people. She has an independent mind. She has managerial skills, running a very complex city like Davao. She is familiar with national issues,” Teodoro said in his recent interview with ABS-CBN News Channel.
Reliable sources from the Dagan Day Sara (DDS), one of the many groups pushing the presidential daughter to run for president in 2022, confirmed to Maharlika TV that a Sara-Gibo tandem is being firmed up even if President Rodrigo Roa Duterte may also run for vice president.
The President had discouraged his daughter to run, saying the President’s job is “not fit for a woman.”
The former defense secretary also defended Inday Sara against criticisms of perpetuating the culture of political dynasty despite the constitutional provision prohibiting families monopolizing the political affairs.
“There were two President Aquino. There were two President Macapagal. It’s people that vote. And I think you cannot consider Mayor Sara to be within the spirit of what a political dynasty is because I think she is quite independent minded and has the mind of her own and she knows what she wants to do, management-wise. That’s my opinion,” Teodoro said.
Although, the presidential daughter did not say she is certain to run for president when Teodoro flew to Davao City ad personally greeted her a “happy birthday,” even as he stressed that he would “gladly be her vice president if she should so decide.”
“I am willing to back her up. I’ll gladly be her vice president if she should so decide,” Teodoro added.
He also disclosed his visit to Davao City was part of his consultations as there were a lot of people asking him to return to public office. (AI/MTVN)
