LAOAG CITY – The Rural Health Unit (RHU) in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte is temporarily closed starting Tuesday until further notice as one of its staff tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
In a public announcement posted on the Pagudpud Municipal Health Office Facebook page, it said that there will be no consultation of patients until the ongoing contact tracing and isolation of RHU personnel are completed.
Although the advisory did not provide data as to the identity of the infected personnel, it said that closing the RHU ensures the safety of everyone and stops the possible spread of the virus.
With the RHU’s closure, town mayor Ralph Rafael Benemerito II said all RHU services will be suspended for now.
“Please refer all emergency and urgent medical concerns to the District Hospitals for now,” he said in an interview Tuesday.
As of this posting, Pagudpud, with 8 active Covid-19 cases, remains to have one of the lowest cases in the province with 67 recoveries.
Pagudpud town is famous for its powdery white sand and crystal clear waters and continues to draw local and foreign tourists especially during summer.
Meanwhile, its neighboring town of Adams is also temporarily closed for tourists due to surge of Covid-19 cases.
Visitors are advised to postpone their travel until the Covid-19 situation is controlled. (PNA)
