ILOILO CITY – Active cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in Western Visayas reached 10,050 with 828 new confirmed cases on Thursday as per result of tests done by 16 out of 18 laboratories in the region.
“We’ve hit the highest so far with 828 cases in one day. Stay safe everyone,” an advisory from the Department of Health Western Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH WV CHD) said.
Of the active cases, 62.31 percent are asymptomatic, 33.16 percent are mild, 2.06 percent are moderate, 2.40 are severe and .07 percent are critical.
As per the DOH regional case bulletin, 816 of the cases are all local transmission, nine are locally stranded individuals (LSIs), and three are authorized persons outside of residence (APORs).
Among the local cases, Negros Occidental has 208; Iloilo province with 204; Bacolod City, 138; Iloilo City, 101; Aklan, 68; Capiz, 54; Antique, 23; and Guimaras has 20.
The bulletin also showed that the region has 282 new recoveries and 13 new deaths.
The results brought to 53,400 total cumulative cases in the region with 1,264 deaths and 42,070 recoveries.
In a previous interview, Dr. Marie Jocelyn Te, Medical Officer IV of the DOH WV CHD, said the surge in cases was due to the high transmission of cases in homes and offices.
The DOH also continues to remind local government units to impose localized lockdowns; ensure that the prevent, detect, isolate, treat, and reintegrate strategy is implemented and monitored; and border control is strengthened.
Further, the turn-around time for contact tracing and isolation should be monitored if targets are met for appropriate action.
“As cases remain high, we should continue to and further intensify our efforts and messaging in promoting adherence to MPHS (minimum public health standards) and addressing vaccine hesitancy,” the DOH said. (PNA)
