MANILA — The Department of Health (DOH)-CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) today received its share of one (1) unit of Toyota Hi-Ace Commuter Deluxe Van from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Health System Enhancement to Address and Limit (HEAL) Covid-19 Project to fast-track pandemic efforts in the region.

Assistant Regional Director Paula Paz. M. Sydiognco welcomes ADB’s assistance and said that the vehicle is a substantial assistance to the on-going Covid-19 response being done in the region.

“Madadagdagan pa ang mga magagamit nating sasakyan lalo na doon sa mga lugar na marami ang covid-19 cases,” she stated.

She emphasized that the vehicle will be utilized for Covid-19 contract tracing activities.

DOH Undersecretary for Health Policy and Systems Development Team (HPSDT) Dr. Mario Villaverde and Dr. Leonita P. Gorgolon, Director IV for Health Facilities Enhancement Program-Management Office (HFEP-MO) hand over the key of 1 unit of Toyota Hi-Ace Commuter Deluxe Van donated by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) through its Health System Enhancement to Address and Limit (HEAL) Covid-19 Project during the turn-over ceremony held at the Philippine Blood Center in Quezon City on June 8, 2021.

Since the start of the Covid pandemic, the ADB has been assisting the DOH in scaling up public health capacity to manage the pandemic by providing medical equipment and supplies and upgrading laboratories and isolation facilities to 17 DOH hospitals throughout the country.

According to the ADB, the (HEAL) COVID-19 Project will enable the DOH to improve health services across the country through the upgrading of medical equipment and related training.

It will also help improve the preparedness and resilience of the country’s health systems at the national and local levels in handling current and future public health threats and contribute to the implementation of universal health coverage in the country.

HEAL COVID-19 will help the government scale up its ability to conduct COVID-19 tests, surveillance, and infection prevention and control, and provide critical care equipment to improve treatment outcomes. (AI/MTVN)
