Margielyn Didal soars high
MANILA — Top Pinay skateboarder Margielyn Didal has officially secured a seat for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
It was no sweat, actually for the Cebuana skateboarder in clinching her Olympics berth on Thursday, June 10, and the 10th Filipino athlete to make it into the long-delayed quadrennial meet due to the pandemic.
The 21-year-old skateboarding sensation was included in World Skate’s announcement of the top 20 skateboarders who will compete in the quadrennial meet’s women’s street event, although she failed to directly qualify in the 2021 World Street Skateboarding Championships in Rome, Italy after falling short of a finals berth.
Nevertheless, Skate Pilipinas announced that Didal is now officially assured of a slot in the Tokyo Olympics via world rankings.
Didal, the 2018 Asian Games gold medalist, ranks 13th in the world in the women’s street event. (AI/MTVN)
