Kinsella Weitzman Iser Kump LLP, Manny Pacquiao’s lawyer in the US issued the following statement:
“The complaint filed by Paradigm Sports in California state court on June 25, 2021 is a frivolous effort to interfere with Manny Pacquiao’s upcoming mega fight, and it can and will fail for numerous reasons. Moreover, had Manny Pacquiao known that Paradigm Sports to have had no intention of fulfilling its contractual obligations, he never would have entered into any relationship with them. Should this matter actually proceed beyond Friday’s filing in a court of law, Mr. Pacquiao will vigorously defend this action, assert his own claims against Paradigm Sports, and seek to recover attorney’s fees as well.”
It was reported that Pacquiao signed with Paradigm Sports last February 2020 which Pacquiao confirmed as well in October 2020. With the signing, there was an increased hope of a mega fight between boxing legend Manny Pacquiao vs MMA superstar Connor McGregor however it failed to materialize. Paradigm Sports failed to deliver any fight and due to inactivity, World Boxing Association (WBA) stripped Manny Pacquiao of his super welterweight title and declared him as “champion in recess.”
Various matches over almost 2 years were brought forth from Connor McGregor, Terence Crawford, Ryan Garcia and Mickey Garcia with various dates but nothing became a reality.
Manny Pacquiao had a previous agreement with Al Haymon which was reportedly carried over in his contract with Paradigm Sports. It was because of this previous agreement that the fight between future boxing hall of famer and only 8 division world champion, Manny Pacquiao vs no. 1 pound for pound Errol Spence, a match various boxing news articles claimed that fans are wanting.
Recently, Manny Pacquiao took exception to recent comments made by Floyd Mayweather and said he fights not for the paycheck, but simply out of his passion for boxing. In a recent interview Pacquiao said: “I want to fight. I want to challenge the best.”
