MANILA — Two notorious members of the Komiteng Larangang Guerilla-Sierra Madre (KLG-SM) of the CPP-NPA surrendered to authorities on June 25, 2021 at the Headquarters of the 91st Infantry Battalion (91IB), Philippine Army in Barangay Calabuanan, Baler, Aurora saying their group was dismantled even as other resistant members went into hiding.
Lieutenant Colonel Reandrew P. Rubio, commanding officer of 91IB, identified the two personalities as “Ka Max” and “Ka Dodong”, members of KLG-SM in the province of Aurora.
Their surrender was made possible through the relentless efforts of the joint elements of the 91IB, 1st Aurora Provincial Mobile Force Company (APMFC) led by Police Major Bartolome A. Antolin, Force Commander, together with the personnel from Baler and Maria Aurora Police Stations.
“Aside from their desire to live a peaceful life, the hardships, abuses, and corruptions inside the terrorist organization made them realize that they were in the wrong organization who claimed to be politically perfect,” said LTC Rubio.
Accordingly, it was only after the KLG SM was declared dismantled that the surrenderers found the courage to turn themselves over to government authorities as they feared punishment from the group before.
“The surrender of two CPP-NPA-Terrorists (CNTs) may imply that more terrorists will abandon the armed struggle as there is a very big possibility that their group may be the next one to be dismantled. Right now is the perfect time to surrender as government agencies are willing to extend their services to those who return to the folds of the law. We appeal to still active armed rebels to lay down your arms and help the government to end this local armed conflict,” added LTC Rubio.
Meanwhile, the Commander of the 7th Infantry (Kaugnay) Division, Philippine Army, Major General Alfredo V. Rosario Jr., said that more local terrorist surrenderers are expected in the days to follow as they continue to advance their intelligence-driven operations in order to clear communities from CTG’s influence.
“Inaasahan natin ang pagbabalik-loob ng mga natitirang miyembro ng mga grupo ng mga lokal na teroristang komunista dahil ito lamang ang pag-asa nilang makapag-bagong buhay. Sa pinaigting na koordinasyon ng ating kasundalahan sa ating mga LGU at stakeholders, hindi magtatagal ay wala na silang matatakbuhan at mapagtataguan,” said MGEN Rosario. (ai/mtvn)
