Isolated rains to prevail over most of PH Friday

MANILA – Most parts of the archipelago may experience isolated rain showers due to the southwest monsoon Friday.

“The southwest monsoon is weak and only affects the extreme northern Luzon, so we are not expecting much rains,” said weather forecaster Shelly Ignacio of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

Luzon is likely to experience isolated thunderstorms for a short period.

The Visayas and most parts of Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies, and rains lasting for a short period.

Caraga and Davao Region will have scattered rain showers and thunderstorms caused by the intertropical convergence zone affecting the east portion of the country, Ignacio said.

Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas are forecast to continue over the whole country.

Meanwhile, Ignacio said a low pressure area may develop in the afternoon that may bring rains over Luzon or the Visayas over the weekend.

“It is unlikely to develop into a tropical depression, but we also consider that possibility,” she said. (PNA)
