LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu – “Style lang na sa mga Duterte, bai! (my friend, it’s just the style of the Dutertes) playing hard to get but really itching to run for president.
This was revealed by one of the organizers of Dagan Day Sara (DDS) group which has been ostensibly urging presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio to run for president in 2022.
“Inday Sara and Digong will both run but under different parties,” said the source who requested not to be named.
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has declared that he would run for vice president while his daughter still kept mum although several groups who support her presidential bid are now organizing at the grassroots level.
On Monday, Hugpong ng Pagbabago’s (HNP) Secretary-General Anthony del Rosario said Duterte-Carpio will decide on running for the presidency in October.
“She basically said, let’s see what happens in October. Having said that I believe we will only know when the filing [starts],” Del Rosario said in an interview on ABS-CBN News Channel.
Del Rosario bared that HNP members have asked her to make a decision by the end of this month.
“After the discussion, when she mentioned she will decide by October, the governors in HNP suggested to her to come up with a decision before the end of July, July 30. It’s a suggestion, not really a deadline,” the HNP official said. “We want to give Mayor Sara all the time she needs to really discern whether or not she wants to run.”
Del Rosario further said that “anything is possible” on the Davao City mayor’s possible vice presidential candidate should she decide run for president in 2022.
Some groups are rooting for former Senator Bongbong Marcos to be Inday Sara’s vice-presidential teammate. (ai/mtvn)
