LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu – Call it Quixotic but there is still fire in the belly of 83-year-old human rights lawyer Democrito Barcenas who wants the “anti-dynasty” Leni Robredo to seek the presidency in 2022 brushing off reports that she intends to run for governor of Camarines Sur.
Barcenas said he would like to see a new leadership even as the Cebu chapter of the once ruling Liberal Party (LP) has not yet finalized their line up of local candidates.
“Nothing definite. But definitely, we will campaign. I, personally, despite my age, with all my heart and soul, to have a change of administration,” he said.
Barcenas, who serves as LP-Cebu spokesman, said he believes that Robredo whom he described as “anti-dynasty, decent, clean and hardworking,” will not be able to resist the “popular clamor.”
Former Camarines Sur Representative Rolando Andaya Jr. had revealed that Robredo will eventually run for governor of Camarines Sur.
Barcenas said the LP-Cebu is planning to put up local candidates, but admitted that nothing has been finalized yet.
He added that the earliest possible date when they can announce their local and national line-up of candidates will be either September or October this year.
Candidates for both local and national positions will file their certificate of candidacy (COC) on October 1 – 8, 2021.
Barcenas claimed the LP-Cebu has organized campaigns and measures to counter black propaganda and “online trolls” that will attack the party’s would-be candidates. (AI/MTVN)
