Filipinos stand to lose thousands of jobs if Senate Bill 2094 becomes law the Confederation of Truckers Association of the Philippines Inc. (CTAP) and various transportation sector group leaders that gathered at a press conference Monday morning at the Casino Español in Manila.
As such, the transport group leaders are calling for a thorough review of Senate Bill 2094 which is under the care of the Senate Public Service Committee headed by Senator Grace Poe and certified as urgent by President Rodrigo Duterte.
The measure seeks to amend the Philippines 85-year old Public Service Act to perk up the domestic economy but it could also ruin local transport sector business as SB 2094, once passed into law, will open the country’s trucking and transport sector to be fully foreign-owned and controlled corporations.
This will lead to the displacement of small and medium Filipino-owned transport businesses not to mention the loss of thousands of jobs to local employees. (Mores Heramis/BENJAMIN CUARESMA/AI/MTVN)
