MANILA – A child who threw a rock at a bus at the Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (Edsa) Busway died after being run over by the same vehicle.
In a Facebook post, the Inter-Agency Council for Traffic (I-ACT) said the incident happened at the Edsa Carousel lane, between the Santolan and Ortigas stations of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3).
Citing witnesses’ accounts, the I-ACT said the bus was heading northbound around 8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. when a child threw a rock at it, causing some damage at the left side part of its windshield.
“Akmang tatakbo palayo na ang nasabing bata nang siya ay tumalon palabas ng carousel. Hindi niya naiwasan ang noo’y papabagal na bus at siya’y tumama sa kaliwang bahagi nito. Tumigil naman ang nasabing bus at tumawag ng tulong (The child was about to run away and tried to jump out of the carousel. The child was unable to evade the decelerating bus and was struck by the left side of the vehicle. Then the bus stopped and called for help),” the I-ACT said.
It said marshals from I-ACT Dragon immediately responded to the scene, led by A/TL Nelson Ty, with other emergency response units of Quezon City, the Philippine National Police (PNP), and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).
“Sa kasamaang palad, hindi na naabutan pang buhay ang nasabing bata (Sadly, the child was found dead when they arrived),” the I-ACT said.
Currently, it said the driver of the bus did not attempt to flee the scene and is now cooperating with the authorities for an investigation.
“Lubos na nakikiramay ang hanay ng I-ACT sa mga naiwan ng pumanaw (The entire I-ACT service is mourning with those left behind by the deceased),” the I-ACT said. (PNA)
