LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu – Praying for “God’s wisdom and guidance,” Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III and Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson on Thursday, July 8, kicked off their public consultations about their possible bid for higher national posts in the 2022 elections.
Lacson is eyeing the presidency while Sotto, whose roots from Cebu, is targeting the vice presidency.
Photos posted on Sotto’s official Facebook pages showed him and Lacson praying inside the Barasoain Church in Malolos, Bulacan.
Sotto’s office said these were before meeting Malolos officials as part of their consultative tour across provinces in Luzon.
The erstwhile movie comedian said that he and Lacson were already drafting their plans and platforms should they run for the country’s highest elective posts.
Sotto is the chairman of the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) while Lacson is an independent who ran for president in 2004 and who declined the offer to slide down as vice-presidential teammate of Fernando Poe Jr. which resulted in their agonizing defeat.
Meanwhile, Senator Dick Gordon who has expressed interest to run for president in 2022 is still in search of his running mate,
“I would be lying if I don’t consider it. I would say na pagka kaya ko at hindi ko hinarap, e baka sabihin ko sa habambuhay ba’t di mo hinarap dahil natakot ako? Takot ako pero hindi ako duwag. Pinag-aaralan namin, nagkokonsonsulta ako and I still have until October to decide…Maybe. Maybe, I will consider running again,” said Gordon who lost in the 2010 presidential elections. (ai/mtvn)
